Dj ODI - South Park [1997]

He’s know throughout for his crazy scratching methods that leave even the trickiest DJ awestruck. Another accreditation to Odi’s name as a solid old schooler is the fact that he was the first junglist accepted into the ZULU Nation. Odi pushes his craft to larger levels by co-founding his new crew G-Force, which consists of the forces of , Datcyde, Kazpa,Posi-D and Mc Trigga. All this creation lies on the basis of his successful foundation of New York’s Digital Konfusion. With the backing of DKNY he produced the legendary NYC outlaw event “Defying the Tribes”. Odi’s production history goes back to tracks he made in 1996: “Anthem” on the Jungle Sky Vol. 2, “Naughty Ride Remix”- Jungle Sky Recordings, “I Don’t Know” EP- BML in 1997 and “Carbon Copies” on Jungle Sky Vol. 6 in 1999. As well as the “Urban Intelligence EP.” on BML sublabel Flyswatta in 2001. He keeps his skills fresh by working on jungle, house, breaks, and hip-hop tracks in his studio in addition to dubplates played by himself, and the G-Force crew. Odi plans to one day start his own record label but for now uses G-Force’s tracks, progressive mixing and diverse track selection to set trends and keep the sound of modern jungle alive and crowds bouncing.

MC_DJ Ribbz & The System AD Mixtape '94

Upload and words from man like Bzrwon

Hi crew, thought I'd add this rare mixtape to the collection, this is uber rare as they made it when they toured together in Adelaide in 94, as far as I know, I'm the only one who has upped it.
The System AD side is some awesome breakbeat/dnb from 93/94 a lot of Basement Records and I managed to ID the entire track list, with some help from the lads at B2VOS Forum, mainly due to my forgetfulness!
The DJ Ribbz side is mainly techno/acid, I haven't ID'd that side yet, still working on it but if anyone wants to help, by all means be my guest :)

The recording isn't the best either, they turned the levels up way too much but I've tried my best to re-master it but still their really isn't a lot you can do to minimize the distortion, even with a filter but never the less it's still listenable.

The System AD side

Track List

Apollo Two (LTJ Bukem) - Return To Atlantis
Ruff With The Smooth - Art Of Intelligence
Kev Bird & The Wax Doctor - On A Roll
Wax Doctor - Another Direction
Shades Of Rhythm - Sweet Sensation (Ray Keith Remix)

DJ Mayhem - Storm Trooper or Cold Acid depending on what pressing!
Wax Doctor & Jack Smooth - Unfriendly
Essence Of Aura - Intruder
Foul Play - Finest Illusion
DJ SS & EQ - DJ's Anthem Vol.2
Fast Floor - Plight Of The Innovators
Kev Bird & Wax Doctor - T.B.N Jack Smooth '93 Remix
Skanna - This Way
LTJ Bukem and Tayla - Bang The Drums
Studio Pressure - Jump Mk II
Static Substance - Ghetto People
DJ Mayhem - Fierce
Persons Unknown - Release Yourself
Smooth But Hazzardous - Push Up The Levels
Wax Doctor & Jack Smooth - Rock To The Groove
Wax Doctor - A New Direction

Nipper Interview & Mix Link

If you have followed the blog from start you will know im a massive nipper fan so its with geat pleasure i give you all the Nipper interview and mix

Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?

Too many to mention and some that I couldn't really talk about but here is one. I was DJing at the Orbit in Morley in 1992 when 2 lads came bouncing up to the DJ box telling me had I heard the news about Nipper. Startled, intrigued while giggling to myself I said, no. Next they both blurted out in unison that DJ Nipper had died from a heroin overdose last week. Totally shocked and pissed off I replied telling them that I had seen him yesterday and he seemed fine. Confused they walked off adamant DJ Nipper was dead.
Shortly after that realising what people were saying and thinking about me I decided to take a break from the scene taking a year out to travel around Asia, which ended up being one of the best decisions of my life.

What Is The Strangest Thing You Have Seen While Your Been Djing @ A Doo ?

A lad on fire after somebody lighting a cig next to him accidentally catching his shell suit.

If You Had A Time Machine What Year Would You Go Back To & Why?

2000BC to the Egyptian period to see who built the Pyramids and how.

Most Memorable Years Of Dj-ing?

1987/88/89 when I began DJing at the start of my DJ career, resident at the Man Alive, working in Eastern Bloc Records and one of the main protagonists at the beginning of the House Scene in Manchester. Unbelievable times never to be forgotten with memories that will stay with me forever.

Where Did Your Dj Name Come From ?

Hehehe ! When I first started DJing I was actually called "Soulski" from my break-dancing days but everyone kept calling me by my nickname Nipper, that I decided to used it instead. I got the nickname Nipper because I was a short arse at school.

What Or Who Gave You That Initial Push To Become A Dj ?

David Dunne when he used to DJ on Key 103 in Manchester asking me to be the mix DJ for his "Isometric Dance Show". I also can't forget Mark Hanley (DJ Fizz) and Eric Powell for helping me by giving me a spot at the "Man Alive" in Manchester.

Did the Djing, Production, Promoting come 1st?

I was a break dancer first and then after I saw Wildstyle, Break Dance and Beat Street with those incredible DJs in those movies I was hooked. What can you say about Grand Master Flash DJing in his kitchen without headphones, simply jaw-droppingly inspirational.
At the same time I was an Altar Boy in Little Hulton, Manchester along with an older Altar Boy called, Bob Longworth who used to give me tape cassettes that he made of new music, then one Sunday he gave me a tape that changed my life. I took the tape away to listen to it then heard a track on it totally blowing my mind which I played continuously and immediately addicted. I couldn't wait for next Sunday to come because I wanted to know where, how, why and who was the creators of the track. Sunday arrived with me running into the church an hour before because the anticipation and intrigue was becoming overbearing, I needed to know. When he saw me he smiled and before I could speak he said, "Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five - Adventures On The Wheels Of Steel." Next day I bought the album and I have never looked back.

Which other countries have you played In Or put parties on?

Too many to mention but my favourite country that I have DJed in has to be, China, simply because of the shear craziness and lunacy of the place. It's insane. The Wild Wild East.

What was the first event you ever played at Or put on?

Christmas party at Hulton Hight School as a mobile DJ in the 1980s

What’s the best event you’ve played at Or put on?

Man Alive, Hacienda or Hacketts. Oh ! And the Quadrant Park Alnighter.

What was your first record you bought?

The Dickies - Banana Splits & Spizz Energy - Where's Captain Kirk which I bought together.

Out of all the tunes you have, which one ‘never fails?

DJing Old Skool House…Bassheads - Anybody Out There, Young MC - Know How and Asha - J J Tribute.

It's Hard But What's you favourite tune of all time?

Ohhh ! Now then that's a very difficult question so I will do different genres with my favorite tunes.

1. Soul & Funk : Danny Pearson - Say It Again

2. Electro Funk - MC Flex & The FBI Crew - Rockin It

3. House : ESP - It's You

4. Hip Hop : Mantronix - Hardcore Hip Hop

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out? Spliff and Fifa 12

So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment?

Struggling to redefine itself as well as trying to come up with a new direction and sound that hasn't been done before. But the technology side of the Dance scene is incredibly exciting as it keeps progressing, evolving and pushing forward technology with new innovative exciting ideas.

How big is your vinyl collection?

What do you think of CDJ's? MP3s ? My vinyl collection shrunk in the mid 2000s because of my desire to travel coupled with the fact I was made bankrupt and I couldn't be arsed with continuously moving and storing them.
So I decided to record all my favourites onto one of my hard drives and then I sold a large selection of them excluding the ones I treasure the most which are my beloved Soul & Funk, Hip Hop, Electro Funk and House. I'm left with around 3000 scattered and stored around the North West in family and mates gaffs. A few hundred choice cuts in Hong Kong too.

What are your feelings on M.C's?

I don't particularly like MCs but if it is done right working in conjunction with the DJ then it can be devastating and entertaining for the crowd.

What do you do outside of the dance music scene?

I produce, edit and remix music. I have my FA & Coever Football coaching certificates and coach football out in Hong Kong where I live. I also do voluntary work with special needs whenever I can which I have done most of my life inspired by my wonderful loving Mum who runs a hospice in Liverpool.

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Promoters?

Practice Practice Practice…And even more Practice. Get a job to start out with to take off the pressure of relying on DJing as a sole income. Determination, luck and perseverance also help.

When you play Out is The Set pre planned set?

I never pre-plan my sets but I do practice certain mixes and scratch routines.

If you could stage a rave anywhere, where would you choose?

In outer space on a Space Station looking back at Earth. How much of a buzz would that be ?

These the interview was done long time ago after TUR and all the shite was flying ound hense the next qustion being asked, Nipper has since played in UK and is playing again in August :-)

are the rumours true that we wont see nipper play in UK again ?

No…I like to wind people up. That's me ;)

Have you seen Fred lately ?

He was at mine the other night having a cuppa with Blandy and myself. Then we got on my decks, had a smoke and had a scratch session for 6 hours. Tricky Finga Fred is outrageous on the wheels of steel…Hehehe !!!

Have to say massive thanks to Nipper for doing the interview and even bigger thanks for the mix !!!!!!!!

now I guess most of you are just here for the mix

well on requst of nipper it will only be up for download for 12 hours

so get it quick
